Eastern Lowland Gorilla
Eastern Lowland Gorillas are obviously a breed of Gorilla that live in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They are on the Critically Endangered list. Not only are they being killed for meat and medicines, they are losing there homes and safe places. Scientists predict that the population of Eastern Lowland Gorillas have decreased by more than 50% (of the original population of 17,000) since the 1990’s. Much of the forests have been destroyed for things like farms, livestock, and mining. Mining also brings tourists who poach and kill the gorillas. The WWF is working hard to protect these animals by expanding protected areas and monitoring them.

I think the extinction of certain animals are extremely sad. Especially since we are the ones making them become extinct. People are seriously eating these gorillas for their meat!? And for their population to go down by 50% since the 1990’s is insane. It’s a good thing the WWF is monitoring their habits a lot more.
ReplyDeleteI thought people would be scared to mess with gorillas after the movie Rise Of The Apes but I guess not!
ReplyDeleteI just find this sad because I feel like man kind is taking away there territory or their lifestyle for pleasure and they gotta name for it and it’s called poaching.
