So we all know that there are billions of cars on the road contributing to the biggest problem on planet earth today which is climate change. Since we have manufactured so many cars, we had to use our precious land to support them by building roads for them to drive on and parking garages for them to park in. This blog post, I will be talking about how parking garages contribute to climate change even with out the car aspect of things. Lets begin with how a parking garage works, so you drive in and start searching for a parking spot. As you are driving around trying to find a parking spot, you are allowing your car to be more fuel inefficient. A kilo meter driven inside a parking facility is much more fuel inefficient and produces much more green house gases than driving a kilo meter at regular highway speeds. cars isnt the only problem that makes parking garages bad. Since parking garages are multi levels if it happens to storm, rain water gets stuck between the levels of the parking garages. Since the water gets stuck, the sun isn't allowed to evaporate it. Which allows the increase of pollutants and sediments into sensitive streams, rivers, and bays. -Ky'on Bass

  1. Honestly I never thought the about any other way cars can impact our environment besides the obvious. But your right with cars comes us tearing down trees and other things to make room for roads and parking garages. And I never really thought about how parking garages can increase pollution to streams and rivers. Although it does make sense, at this place called the Plaza in Kansas City, mo there is this huge parking garage. I went there in may when there was huge rain fall the week before. I remember there still being huge puddles of water.

  2. I think this is an interesting take on how cars can impact the environment in was that we might not even think of. I never would have though that parking garages would have an impact on nearby streams, rivers, and bays.
